Xanathar’s and Tasha’s did great things for Ranger, Horizon Walker is one of them. And its got one feature in particulat which is sneakily abusable. You could go a bit more interesting perhaps though to capitalize on the Close-range nature of the Horizon walker. Normal Longbow Ranger, Sharpshooter and Archery is fairly self-explanatory. Heavy Crossbow Ranger with Crossbow Expert and Sharpshooter can also work, though it's worth noting that requires an extra feat for little benefit. Build goals: archer with a furry friend.
